Speaking of concept shoots…. so the story is this.  There’s this creepy old house about a half mile from here.  When we’re out walking we pass it all the time.  One day I decided to take a look inside and it’s even more creepy than I thought.  The hole in the roof lets the light in, also the birds and whatever other critters who decide to visit.  The first time I stuck my head inside this room I knew it would be an awesome background for an image like this.  As I was photographing the room some birds flew in to check on their nests, and were none too happy that I had invaded their space.

This is the type of Artistic Photography we love to create.  And while this may be a little outside the box for someone wanting a family portrait or a wedding photographer, just imagine what we might be able to do with your family portrait.  Let’s discuss the possibilities.  Give us a call at 865.908.0321 or just contact us on this site.

We don’t do this on our own.  Hair and makeup artistry by Elizabeth Arnold of Elizabeth Arnold Styles.

Cheers!

Concept Session.  Every picture tells a story, so what we do in the concept session is figure out the story ahead of time rather than just documenting the moments like we would with a wedding.  Do you want to look like a movie star or a zombie or… use your imagination.

For Jessica’s photo shoot we had three scenarios in mind, this time inspired by some vintage outfits we found at some local shops.  First we wanted to use a Daisy Mae sort of look, or Ellie Mae from the Clampets (you remember that one, right?).  So Jessi dressed up in this cute little outfit, we found an old country road and and old suitcase to sit on.

Next thing was to go for sort of a Jackie Kennedy look.  A little retro and glamorous.  Then let’s make it look like we’re on location (not necessarily in the mountains).  Fun!

For our third concept, we found this beautiful vintage hand made prom dress at the vintage store.  I knew Jessi would look gorgeous in it, and we also found a unique head piece to give it a little more exotic look.  We set this shot up next to the woods and lit it to make it look like the light from the lantern was lighting the whole shot.  We’ve pretty proud of the way this one turned out…

WOW!  It seems like I was just recently sitting here listing some faves from 2010, and now look!

Well Happy New Year to all our faithful blog followers and Welcome to the new viewers!  Thanks for visiting our blog.

We just went through a ton of images from 2011 and picked what we feel makes a good representation of what happened through the year both at RIK Photography and Bluff Mountain Inn.  It would just not be possible to post all the wonderful people we photographed this year, but this short video is truly an example of what we do and I would love for you to take a look.

On a recent trip to Rome I was fortunate to be able to meet and photograph Michela in that beautiful city.  My friend Luca was a lot of help, taking me for a walk around the town and introducing me to so many beautiful piazas, fountains and historic places.

I also am grateful to Jay Studios Roma for assisting me in the shoot and introducing me to Michela.  I can’t think of a better city in which to have your bridal photographic session.  Just give us a call to set up a session.

  • Janet - Rick: wow!!!! what magnificent photography. It blew me away. The settings are absolutely breathtaking, but even more so, the poses are so provocative and captivating. VERY IMPRESSIVE!

Jessica and Adam came here from Owensboro, KY.  I’ve been there lots of times but never knew anyone who lived there.

So this was an interesting concept.  They came on Friday to have their engagement photos made, then had their wedding on Saturday!

They were a lot of fun, and hey, you can never have too many photos, right???  What really shows throughout the images is how this couple is crazy about each other.

Here’s a gallery of images both from the engagement session and the wedding.

You know, it’s not a bad idea having two days of photos.  This way you can get the casual shots from the e-session, plus the formal and fun wedding shots.  Another way to achieve this would to be a day after session.  A great example of the day after session would be Whitney.
