As I was driving to Nashville a couple of days ago my cell phone rang.  It was Tim calling me to see if we could arrange a photo shoot in the mountains while he and his wife Kristi were in town.  They had come to the mountains to celebrate their first anniversary and wanted some fun photos to commemorate the trip.  What a fun shoot it turned out to be.

While they were site-seeing, Tim and Kristi already had a good idea of what sort of locations they wanted and just took some notes.  So when I met them this morning Tim says, “just follow us.”  And I did…

This site gave me a nice opportunity to experiment with some solar flare on the lens. OK, it's official, I'm a photo geek...

So… we’re going along on this adventure and Tim says to me, “I hope you don’t mind, but there’s a 120 step climb to get to the waterfall in Cherokee.”  Do I mind?  Nah.. I’m tough.

About half way up this stairway to heaven, I’m huffing and puffing.  Tim’s just talking like it’s a stroll in the park.  I guess is is for him.  Tim’s a US Marine!!!  “Oh sorry, I run up things like this every day.”  Now I don’t feel so bad, but we still stoped half way up for a little breather.  Better that than him having to carry me down, right?

Next to the waterfall I see this incredible rock wall.  “Want to climb it?”  Before I could grab the camera, he was swinging from the rocks.  Kristi and I stayed on the trail…

Spending a few hours taking photos of folks and getting to know them a little bit is just a great way to spend the morning.  As we talked I found out a few other reasons these folks have to celebrate aside from their anniversary.  Tim gets out of the marine corps in two months!  He proudly served his country, ie.  all of us, for 4 years and he’s starting a new chapter in his life… their lives.

When I asked if he was going to re-enlist.  “No sir.  We’ve got a baby on the way.”

With any luck, check back on the blog in a year or two and I hope we’ll have some family shots to show you.

Tim and Kristi, it was a pleasure to meet you and to capture these precious mountain memories for you.  Thanks for contacting us and come back anytime.

We traveled down to Key Largo this past weekend for a fun time with some great folks.  The families of Craig and Cheryl found a great location called Alligator Reef, a secluded group of condos with lots of space for weddings, receptions and just having fun getting to know each other.

While all the big folks were frantically getting ready for the big event these guys had their own agenda.

We took the bridal party to a secluded location on the bay side of Islemarada right after the wedding. Although we had permission in advance, we were told when we arrived that another wedding was just about to start and we had 15 minutes! The following several shots were all made in that 15 minutes...

The bridal party looks like they're taking a break, but trust me, they were on the move.

We ducked behind a building to make sure we weren't seen and found a fun backdrop.

Back at Alligator Reef, the party is about to begin.

I borrowed the bride and groom from the reception to get one sunset shot, even though we were on the wrong side of the island to get the real sunset. Cheryl and Craig love to kayak, so I figured we'd get one of their most memorable locations into the photos.

Hurry, get to the beach! They're shooting off fireworks!!! What a great surprise ending for a great day.

  • Sue McBay - Hi Rick,
We just arrived back in Ontario and raced to our computer in the hope that some pictures might be available. WOW. The photos are breathtaking. What an artist you are! You have created works of art with your camera. Mind you – the bride and groom are good material with which to work! Thank you for sending these out to us so quickly.
    Love,
    Sue

Joe said he wasn’t much for pictures, but I think we proved him wrong on this one…

Congratulations on your engagement and we look forward to your next visit in June!

  • Tonya - I absolutely LOVE the picture of Sarah & Joe near the truck in front of the barn! What a GREAT picture! I also love the one of Annie in the foreground with Sarah & Joe blurred in the background. Just fantastic!

These folks traveled all the way from Hattiesburg, MS to the Smoky Mountains this weekend for a meeting about their wedding and to shoot their engagement session.  We were all expecting some beautiful weather, but wound up with rain and cold.  They were troopers though and we braved the elements to get these fun shots.
