A Master of the Keys

When my friend Oscar Kirkland stopped by a few weeks ago to tune our grand piano I snapped a couple of photos of him.  Looking at those shots I realized we just needed a larger room to get the full effect of what this man does.  He’s a true craftsman.

Oscar tunes pianos for the Knoxville Symphony, just about every church and theater in the area, plus all the famous pianists that come to town.  He’s told me stories about trying to tune on a stage they built on top of the Knoxville Sunsphere but the helicopters that were there to film the concert made so much noise he couldn’t even hear the piano.

Every time he comes around I learn a little bit about how pianos work and a little bit about life.  Guys like him are good to know…

BTW, Oscar told his wife to hold all calls today because he was embarking on a modeling career.  I hope the phone rings off the wall!
