Gatlinburg Wedding Photographer » RIK Photography is your best choice for modern artistic and creative wedding photography in Gatlinburg and the TN Smoky Mountains.

Before I decided to go down the pro-photography road I had another career as a musician/conductor/arranger. And from time to time an opportunity comes around to practice that side of my artistic self.

My dear friend and former boss, Louise Mandrell, had a three day engagement in December with the U.S.Army Band at Constitution Hall in Washington DC. Not a bad gig, huh?

So I spent the past several months (in between weddings and late night editing sessions) working with Louise and the Army to come up with some really cool arrangements for the concert. We spent a couple of days in rehearsal, but once the concert started I was free to go out front and take some photos (something I’d only been able to achieve from the stage in the past, but that’s another story).

Louise and the band rocked! Four shows with a packed house each show. And for all our friends in the military, they will be airing the concerts on the Pentagon Chanel.

Here are a few of my favorite shots…

We featured this awesome drum line on Little Drummer Boy…

These guys are trained professionals with operatic backgrounds, so naturally we drag them out front to sing polkas and bluegrass!!

It was a wonderful concert and a wonderful week in DC, seeing the museums, touring the White House, visiting the National Cathedral, hanging out with old friends, and meeting some very talented and wonderful people in the Army Band.

So from the White House, and from our house to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Peace, Joy and Love,
Rick, Rhonda and everyone at Bluff Mountain Inn

The ruby slippers made quite an impression. I couldn’t resist the color on B&W; with this print.

By request, here are a couple more photos of the ladies.

I think these ladies confused the bouquet toss with a game of dodge ball…

Congratulations to the happy couple! and many happy returns.

  • Monica - Hey– I was the matron of honor in Lindsey & Josh’s wedding. I LOVE the pictures and would love to see more of the girls w/ Lindsey if you can post or email them to me, that’d be awesome.
The black and white w/ red looks fantastic! 🙂
    Thanks for a great weekend!

  • Rick King - Hi Monica,

I posted a couple more photos for you on the blog. Thanks for the compliments, and we had a good time as well.

You’ll be able to view all the photos online as soon as Lindsey has gone through them and released them for the public to view. Send me your email address via private email to rick@rikphotography.com and I’ll make sure you’re on the list to be notified when they’re ready.

    Thanks
    Rick

We love our military couples! They come to us because they just don’t have the time to dedicate to planning a wedding. Just a few more pressing issues on their agenda since they’re both in the Army.
So they come here and invite their families for the celebration and let us take care of the details. Next thing you know they’re off to a foreign post.
We’re very proud of what you do and who you are, and we were very happy to host your Wedding Day!

Heather plays french horn in the Army Band. This isn’t her typical uniform, but she’s quite striking in it, no?

Brian had a pretty good family turnout. What a great opportunity for an updated family portrait! Nice looking bunch, don’t you agree?

I was a little far away to know what they were discussing, but I’m pretty sure it involved national security…

Congratulations to the happy couple. Be safe and we’d love to have you back for some anniversary photos in a few years. Bring your horn!
