Images in this gallery were taken in February of 2012 while on tour in Australia with Olivia Newton-John. Cities visited were Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. It’s fun for a smoky mountain photographer to get out into the world every once and a while.
I love all my Aussie friends. What great people, and there are some really fantastic photographers down there. It’s a great treat to be able to meet up with them while in Australia or when they come to the states for a visit. The community of photographers as well as the other artistic communities I’ve come in contact with, ie. musicians and dancers, are all very giving people. Friendly and willing to share their knowledge and their love for the arts.
Being backstage at the Sydney Opera House is quite the experience. There’s a very large green room with a great little restaurant. Lots of healthy choices on the menu. Juice bar, etc.
But the really great part is seeing all the performers come through. Some are on an intermission break from the Opera, dressed in full makeup and whatever period costume the opera is based upon. I’ve seen pirates, geishas… some pretty incredible stuff. Not to mention some of the most talented musicians anywhere and world renowned conductors and artists.
There are lots of couches close to the window that overlooks the Sydney Harbor, and typically a few people are napping or reading. Just biding their time before it’s time for the next performance.
I’ve often wanted to walk through there with my camera and just shoot all the wonderful people, but I feel like that would be an invasion of privacy. Being on that world famous stage is about as public as most want to get.
